Cartoon Art Museum

The Cartoon Art Museum occupies a brick building constructed in nineteen twelve that has lived many lives on the San Francisco waterfront. Before it became a home for animation cels and comic strips, this space served as a storeroom for the Italian Swiss Winery and later housed an antique clock emporium. During the nineteen seventies, the structure transitioned into the Circle Gallery, where, in a curious precursor to its current purpose, it once displayed original Walt Disney animation cels. Today, this site functions as the only museum in the Western United States dedicated entirely to the preservation and exhibition of all forms of cartoon art, housing a permanent collection of approximately seven thousand pieces.
