15th Avenue Steps

The 15th Avenue Steps were constructed around 1927 as part of the initial grading of the Golden Gate Heights neighborhood. These stairs were designed to make the steep, sandy terrain of the area navigable for pedestrians at a time when much of the higher elevation remained undeveloped. City engineer M. M. O'Shaughnessy, known for his instrumental role in shaping much of San Francisco's early infrastructure, oversaw the plans for these public access routes.
