The Tin Angel sits on the corner of Battery and Filbert streets, marked by its rounded brick corner and deep, inset windows. In the nineteen sixties, this building housed a coffeehouse of the same name, a narrow space where local poets and folk singers performed for small crowds. One night, a young Janis Joplin sang here, her voice echoing against these brick walls before she found fame. The venue eventually closed its doors, but the building remains, keeping its quiet, industrial profile in the North Waterfront.
