Lyon Street Steps

The Lyon Street Steps were constructed in 1916 by architect Louis M. Upton. These stairs were built to solve a practical problem, providing a direct passage for residents to traverse the steep hillside between the residential neighborhoods of Pacific Heights and the lower-lying areas near the bay. While their initial purpose was purely functional, they have become a prominent fixture in the neighborhood, cutting through a landscape of some of the city's most exclusive real estate. The stairs serve as a vital connection point, bridging the gap between high-elevation Pacific Heights and the waterfront level below.
