The Benches

park garden

The Benches at the intersection of Eighteenth Street and San Bruno Avenue exist because of local residents who transformed a neglected space into a community garden and resting point. Volunteers designed, constructed, and continue to maintain this small park themselves, choosing to cultivate it as a shared neighborhood asset rather than letting it sit empty. It stands as an example of grassroots urbanism, where neighbors take the initiative to reclaim and improve small pockets of land to better serve their daily lives.
