Russell House

The Russell House at thirty seven seventy eight Washington Street stands as a rare piece of European modernism in the heart of San Francisco. Designed by the internationally acclaimed German architect Erich Mendelsohn, it was completed in nineteen fifty one. Mendelsohn, who fled Nazi Germany in nineteen thirty three, became one of the twentieth century's most significant architects, famous for his expressionist curves and streamlined designs. This residence remains the only house he ever designed in the United States.
