Crissy Marsh

Crissy Marsh sits on land that was once a thriving tidal wetland for thousands of years, used by the indigenous Ramaytush Ohlone people to hunt, fish, and harvest shellfish. You can find evidence of these early settlements in the archaeological record, including a shellmound in the area dating back to the year seven hundred forty. When Spanish colonizers arrived in the late eighteenth century, they largely dismissed this ecosystem as a wasteland and used the shoreline primarily for grazing livestock.
