Moscone Center

The Moscone Center is a vast network of underground exhibition halls topped by glass-enclosed lobbies and parks. George Moscone, the mayor who championed the project in the late nineteen seventies, wanted to secure San Francisco’s spot as a global convention hub. He never saw the finished product; he was assassinated in city hall just months after the groundbreaking. The center remains his namesake, serving as a massive subterranean machine that pulls millions of people into this specific slice of downtown.
