A pair of bright, interlocking steel sculptures resembling stylized flames rises above the entrance to Notre Dame d’Haiti. This church serves as the spiritual heart for Miami’s Haitian community, a role it solidified in the early nineteen eighties when thousands of refugees arrived by sea. Father Thomas Wenski helped turn this site into a sanctuary for newcomers, often holding masses that blended liturgical tradition with Haitian drumming and choral music. The vibrant blue and yellow exterior remains a beacon for the neighborhood.
