Toussaint Louverture Memorial Statue

monument

The bronze bust of Toussaint Louverture sits atop a white stone pedestal in the heart of the Little Haiti neighborhood. It depicts the general who led the Haitian Revolution, wearing his signature military uniform and a determined expression. In nineteen ninety-nine, the Miami-Dade County government commissioned the work to acknowledge the deep ties between the Caribbean nation and this community. Sculptor Patrick Cauvin cast the figure to honor the former enslaved man who steered Haiti toward independence from French colonial rule.
