E.W.F Stirrup House

The two-story wood frame house with its wide, wrap-around porch stands as a survivor of early Coconut Grove. Ebenezer Woodbury Franklin Stirrup, a builder who arrived from the Bahamas in eighteen eighty-eight, constructed this home for his family in eighteen ninety-seven. Stirrup bought undeveloped land when others ignored it, eventually building over one hundred homes for the black laborers who worked in the area. He kept this specific house as his own residence until his death in nineteen fifty-seven.
