The Woman's Club of Coconut Grove occupies a low, white building tucked behind a stone wall on South Bayshore Drive. It began in eighteen ninety-one, when Flora McFarlane gathered a group of women in her living room to discuss the needs of their isolated pioneer community. They built this clubhouse in nineteen seventeen using native limestone. During the nineteen twenties, the club members operated the first local kindergarten and a free library from these very rooms before the city took over those responsibilities.
