Carbide & Carbon Building

The Carbide and Carbon Building rises forty stories, finished in dark green terra cotta trimmed with genuine gold leaf. It mimics the shape of a champagne bottle, a design choice by architects Harry and John Burnham. During Prohibition, the brothers joked that the building resembled the bottle they missed most. Inside, the lobby remains a preserved slice of the nineteen twenties, featuring polished black marble and bronze accents. It functions as a hotel today, housing guests within its distinctive, shimmering, art deco frame.
