City of Chicago - City Hall

The City Hall of Chicago occupies an entire city block, defined by its massive granite exterior and a row of colossal Corinthian columns that rise toward the roofline. Inside this limestone frame, the building houses the offices of the mayor and the city council. In nineteen oh nine, architect William Holabird designed the structure to share a footprint with the County Building next door, creating a unified appearance. A local judge once demanded the architect include matching clock towers, despite their conflicting architectural styles.
