Walter Grinnan Robinson House

The Walter Grinnan Robinson House stands out for its massive, double-gallery facade held up by heavy square columns and topped with a deep, bracketed cornice. Built in eighteen fifty-nine, this residence was designed by architect Henry Howard for a prominent cotton merchant. When Union forces occupied New Orleans during the Civil War, they seized the house for use as an officer's hospital. A soldier stationed there once carved his initials into the original woodwork, a faint mark still visible on the third floor.
