Pritchard-Pigot House

The Pritchard-Pigot House features a double gallery facade lined with cast-iron lace that appears remarkably lighter than the heavy brickwork common in the Garden District. Built in eighteen fifty-three for a local merchant, the house survived the collapse of the neighborhood's original elite social order. In eighteen seventy-one, ownership passed to a widowed seamstress who began boarding out rooms to help pay the taxes. Her guests famously included traveling musicians who played live jazz from the upstairs balcony to earn their keep.
