Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans

The Contemporary Arts Center rises from Camp Street with a facade of painted, geometric yellow and blue tiles that break the heavy rhythm of the surrounding warehouse district. It began in nineteen seventy-six, when a group of artists tired of waiting for traditional museums to show their work occupied this former hardware warehouse. They turned the industrial shell into a multi-story laboratory for living creators. Today, the space still functions as a raw, echoing vessel for artists to hang sculptures and build installations.
