This house began as the residence of a wealthy merchant before the Civil War, but it spent the next century housing widows and elderly women in need of care. During the nineteen thirties, the Guild members famously staged elaborate tea parties and garden events here to fund their mission. The building remains a quiet fixture of the neighborhood, shielding its long history behind ornate metalwork.
