Crane Theological School

educational

The Crane Theological School building displays a distinctive heavy granite base topped by wood shingles, a structure designed to blend into the wooded hillside of Tufts University. Established in eighteen sixty-nine to train Universalist ministers, the school relied on a generous endowment from Thomas Crane. Students spent their days inside these rooms debating theology, but the school eventually shuttered its doors in nineteen sixty-eight. Today, the building houses university administrative offices, hiding the former pulpits and prayer spaces behind quiet, modern cubicles.
