WGI (radio station)

event

The brick building on Governors Avenue once housed WGI, a pioneering radio station that broadcast from the top floor in the early nineteen twenties. While the neighborhood is quiet now, the station held the unique distinction of being owned by the American Radio and Research Corporation, a firm deep into early wireless technology. In nineteen twenty-two, they transmitted live music and weather reports to listeners across New England, often battling technical interference that defined the rough, experimental nature of those first broadcasts.
