WOR TV Tower

historic

The massive steel structure that once dominated the skyline here was a seven hundred and sixty foot tall engineering marvel completed in nineteen forty-nine. Developers specifically chose this spot at the top of the two hundred and forty foot Palisades ridge because it provided a superior vantage point over New York City. By placing their transmitter at this height, they achieved a total elevation of one thousand feet above sea level, ensuring clear signal reception across the metropolitan area and into Connecticut. For a brief period, this four hundred and twenty ton lattice tower stood as one of the ten tallest man-made structures on the planet.
