J. George Fredman Park

J. George Fredman Park is named in honor of a man who served as the national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. In nineteen thirty-three, he organized a landmark demonstration in lower Manhattan where over twenty thousand veterans gathered to protest the Nazi regime. This event was a significant early American response to the rise of Adolf Hitler. Fredman later used his influence to help dismantle Camp Nordland, a large facility in New Jersey that had been used by the German American Bund for pro-Nazi rallies and training. The park stands as a local commemoration of his commitment to patriotism and civil rights.
