River Run Playground is named for the opening line of James Joyce's final novel, Finnegans Wake. Local literary enthusiasts, who identify as Joyceans, championed the name to reflect the famous circular prose that begins with the word riverrun. The playground sits within Riverside Park, and its centerpiece is a winding water feature called a runnel, which flows from a fountain and serves as a literal interpretation of its namesake.
