Bow Bridge

Bow Bridge earns its name from its elegant, low-rising arch, which mimics the curve of an archer's bow. When it was completed in 1862, it represented a significant engineering feat as one of the earliest cast-iron bridges in the United States. The designers, Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould, chose the firm Janes, Kirtland and Company to manufacture the ironwork. This same foundry was simultaneously busy casting the iconic dome for the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
