WP Theater

WP Theater, located here on Broadway, was founded in 1978 by producer Julia Miles to confront a stark reality in the American theater industry. While working at another Off-Broadway venue, Miles discovered that only six percent of the plays produced were written by women. She secured a grant from the Ford Foundation to create a dedicated space where female playwrights and directors could develop their craft, eventually building the organization into the oldest and largest company of its kind in the United States.
