The Noguchi Museum

The Noguchi Museum is an architectural work of art in its own right, conceived by the Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi. In 1985, he opened this space as the first museum in the United States established, designed, and installed by a living artist to showcase his own work. He transformed a former 1920s photogravure plant and an adjacent gas station lot into this serene complex. By keeping the building’s original industrial steel and wood beams, he created a striking contrast between the hard, utilitarian lines of the old factory and the organic, contemplative nature of his sculptures.
