Founder's Hall (Rockefeller University)

historic

Founder Hall stands as the original building of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research which opened in nineteen hundred and six. John D. Rockefeller funded the construction after his young grandson died of scarlet fever, prompting him to seek a permanent solution to the spread of infectious diseases. The building functioned as both a laboratory and a living space for scientists who were often so dedicated to their experiments that they slept on cots next to their work benches. This intense focus transformed the building into the cradle of American biomedical science, leading to breakthroughs in blood transfusion techniques and the treatment of epidemic meningitis.
