City Hospital (Roosevelt Island)

City Hospital began its existence in eighteen thirty-two as a penitentiary hospital. Its primary purpose was to provide medical care for the prisoners incarcerated on what was then known as Blackwells Island. The original structure was a functional part of the islands isolation, serving those whom the city had removed from the mainland.
