Irish Hunger Memorial

park garden

The Irish Hunger Memorial stands as a half-acre slice of the Irish countryside transported directly into the heart of Manhattan. To create this landscape, designers brought in soil, native vegetation, and stones from every one of the thirty-two counties of Ireland. These stones are scattered along the walking paths, each clearly etched with the name of the county from which it originated, physically connecting the far-flung regions of the Irish island to this single point in New York City.
