This townhouse is one of a small, cohesive row of buildings known as the Hardenbergh-Rhinelander Historic District. Built in the late nineteenth century, these structures were commissioned by the Rhinelander family, who were major landowners in this section of New York. The architect, Henry Hardenbergh, is the same designer responsible for other massive New York icons, such as the Plaza Hotel and the Dakota.
