Justice Gilbert Ramirez Park sits on the site of what was once known as McKibben Park, a recreation space that has served this corner of East Williamsburg since nineteen thirty-six. The park underwent a major transformation at the turn of the twenty-first century, when a significant renovation project completely reimagined its layout. The resulting design is a tribute to the heavy transit infrastructure hidden directly beneath the street, with play equipment modeled after city subway entrances and artwork resembling traditional transit tokens embedded into the ground.
