330 West 42nd Street

The building standing before you, at 330 West 42nd Street, is a striking landmark clad in shimmering blue-green terra cotta tiles. Completed in 1931, it was designed by Raymond Hood, an architect known for defining the city skyline with his contributions to Rockefeller Center and the Daily News Building. The vibrant exterior was intentional, as Hood meant for the colors of the facade to dissolve into the sky regardless of the weather. When it first opened, the skyscraper was so avant-garde that it was the only building in New York City chosen to be featured in the influential International Style exhibition of 1932.
