Madison Belmont Building

The Madison Belmont Building was constructed as a luxury headquarters for the Cheney Brothers Silk Company, which was the largest silk manufacturer in the United States at the time. Its arrival in nineteen twenty-four signaled the transformation of this neighborhood into the short-lived but prestigious Silk District, as fine showrooms replaced the private mansions of wealthy New Yorkers.
