Park East Synagogue

Park East Synagogue was built in eighteen ninety as a deliberate challenge to the religious trends of its time. While many Upper East Side congregations were embracing Reform Judaism, this group founded Congregation Zichron Ephraim to maintain a strictly Orthodox tradition. To bridge the gap between their heritage and their new home, they became one of the first to incorporate the English language into their services, a move that helped shape the identity of modern American Judaism.
