Ambassador Theatre (Broadway)

The Ambassador Theatre hides a geometric secret beneath its unassuming exterior. When architect Herbert J. Krapp was commissioned to build the theater in 1921 on a constrained, square-shaped plot of land, he faced a difficult challenge in maximizing seating capacity. He opted to place the entire auditorium on a diagonal axis relative to the street. This unconventional choice resulted in a uniquely shaped hexagonal interior that allowed for over eleven hundred seats, far more than a standard rectangular orientation would have accommodated.
