Booth Theatre

The Booth Theatre opened in 1913 as a deliberate experiment in what its founder, producer Winthrop Ames, called intimate theater. Ames, a man of significant wealth and architectural training, rejected the sprawling, cavernous venues that were standard for the era. He specifically commissioned a smaller house to foster a more personal connection between the actors and the audience, believing this scale was essential for presenting prestigious, challenging dramas.
