Eugene O’Neill Theatre

The Eugene O'Neill Theatre stands as a historic milestone in the Broadway district, notable for being the very first playhouse in New York City named in honor of a playwright. When it opened in 1925, it was originally known as the Forrest Theatre, named after the famous nineteenth-century tragedian Edwin Forrest. Its construction was equally groundbreaking at the time, as it was the first theater to utilize a steel-frame structure, a building technique that had previously been reserved for skyscrapers and large office complexes.
