St. James Theatre

The St. James Theatre stands on land that once hosted the very first incarnation of Sardi's, the legendary restaurant where theater luminaries gathered starting in nineteen twenty-one. Before the restaurant moved down the block to its current location, the site was cleared to make way for a grand playhouse commissioned by the powerful producer Abraham Lincoln Erlanger. When it opened in nineteen twenty-seven, it was known as the Erlanger Theatre, and its inaugural production starred the prolific George M. Cohan. Continue
