Symphony Space

The building you see at the corner of Broadway and 95th Street began its life in 1915 as a grand, ambitious food market built by the tycoon Vincent Astor. Despite his wealth, the market failed quickly, and the space underwent a series of rapid transformations to survive. It served as a skating rink, a restaurant, a boxing ring, and a collection of movie theaters before finally becoming the vibrant performing arts center known today as Symphony Space.
