Marsha P. Johnson Memorial Fountain

Marsha P. Johnson spent nearly three decades as a fixture of the West Village, often found near Christopher Street or the waterfront. She was a pioneering activist who co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, or STAR, an organization created to provide housing and support for gay and transgender youth living on the streets. Her life and work became a foundational part of the gay liberation movement, and her presence in this neighborhood remains a powerful symbol of the fight for transgender visibility and rights.
