The candy store at Kraanlei seventeen has a facade painted in a deep, dark brown with gold lettering that dates back to eighteen hundred and four. Inside, glass jars hold cuberdons, the purple, cone-shaped sweets known locally as Ghent noses. René Temmerman opened the shop to serve traditional Flemish confections, and his family kept the business running through two world wars. The store retains its original wooden cabinets and scales, preserved exactly as they appeared to customers two centuries ago.
