't Galgenhuis

't Galgenhuis stands as the narrowest house in Ghent, wedged tightly against the south side of the Vrijdagmarkt square. Its name translates to the Gallows House, a grim reference to its location near where the city once executed prisoners. Criminals were held here for their final meal before being led to the gallows. While the original wooden structure dates to the early sixteenth century, the current brick facade reflects later renovations. It served as a place for the condemned to face their end.
