The UFO at the University of Ghent is a flat, circular structure of concrete and glass that sits atop the plateau of the Sint-Pietersplein. It serves as the university's main lecture hall and event space. In the late nineteen nineties, architect Juliaan Lampens designed the building to replace the older, decaying infrastructure of the campus. It opened in nineteen ninety-seven, and students now pack the circular theater for lectures while the basement levels house storage and utility rooms for the entire university district.
