Saaihalle

The Saaihalle features a sharp, stepped gable that rises above the rest of the brickwork along the canal. Built in fourteen forty-one, this hall served the Genoese merchants who traveled to Bruges to trade silk and spices. They used the ground floor for their business transactions and meetings. By the mid-eighteenth century, the building fell into decay, and eventually, the city converted it into a regional museum. The original stonework marks the spot where international commerce once defined the local economy.
