Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan

landmark

The copper brewing vats inside Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan still occupy the same stone floors where the Maes family started production in eighteen fifty-six. A three kilometer underground pipeline snakes from these vats beneath the medieval streets of Bruges to a bottling plant outside the city center. Henri Maes installed this system in twenty-sixteen to keep delivery trucks out of the narrow alleys. Locals gather here to drink Straffe Hendrik, a strong golden ale that famously survived two world wars.
