Guido Gezellemuseum

The Guido Gezellemuseum occupies a modest, whitewashed house with a deep, sloping roof that marks the corner of Rolweg. This is the birthplace of the nineteenth-century poet Guido Gezelle. He grew up here while his father worked the surrounding garden as a florist. When Gezelle became a priest, he spent his hours writing verses about the natural world in the local West Flemish dialect. The garden remains, still containing the original orchard and the stone statue of the poet seated among the trees.
