The Kantcentrum occupies a narrow, seventeenth-century building identifiable by the intricate stone lace pattern carved into its facade. This center preserves the craft of bobbin lace, a trade that once sustained thousands of women in Bruges. During the late nineteenth century, the industry faced collapse as factory-made imitations flooded the market. Sisters from the Convent of the Sisters of the Holy Heart stepped in to save the technique, organizing training programs that kept the complex stitches alive for the next generation of makers.
