Sint-Janshuismolen

landmark

The Sint-Janshuismolen rises above the grassy ramparts of Bruges on a tall, dark wooden base. Built in seventeen seventy, this windmill ground grain for the city long after similar structures vanished from the skyline. While other mills were demolished as steam power arrived, this one remained in its original spot. In nineteen seventy, the city moved it back to these eastern fortifications to replace a mill that had fallen down decades earlier. It now houses a small museum dedicated to its milling past.
