Monument aux Agents du Réseau de l'Est morts pour la Patrie

The bronze statue of a railway worker holding a torch stands above the entrance of the Gare de l’Est. It honors the employees of the Eastern Railway Company who died during the First World War. When the trains stopped running to the front, these men took up arms. In nineteen twenty-five, the sculptor Raymond Sudre placed this figure here to mark the immense loss of staff who once operated the station. Most passengers walk past the sculpture without knowing the worker's name.
