Place Jean-Michel Basquiat is a public square in the thirteenth arrondissement of Paris that honors the life and legacy of the influential American artist. Inaugurated in September 2018, the site was chosen for its location within a district known for embracing urban creativity and contemporary art. Before the square was built, the land belonged to the national railway company and served as part of a massive urban redevelopment project. Local officials selected the name to celebrate Basquiat's role as a pioneer who transitioned from the graffiti scene to becoming a leading figure in neo-expressionism.
